Track rules updated February 8, 2025
These rules apply to all slot car races at Lanes Raceway, along with the General Rules. Jump to: Track rules · Box Stock GRC/FCR · Fairview IT Management Cup · Flexi Challenge (DTM, LMP, GTP)
Track rules
- Everyone in the race must turn marshal when sitting out. You may only work on your car during the 2-minute lane rotation. During your sit-out, your car must be in the designated area while the race is running. If you don't turn marshal, 50 laps are deducted for each heat you miss. All racers and the track director should enforce this rule.
- 2-minute heats.
- 2-minute lane rotations. During the 2 minutes you may work on your car at your pit area. All cars should be on the track before the timer ends. The timer is displayed on all TVs during the race. Sit-outs must have their car in the designated area and be ready to turn marshal before time expires. A 50-lap penalty applies if your car is not in the window.
- Sit-out stickers. Place an identifiable sticker on the side of the track when you sit out, or when you finish the race with heats left. This is required if you are on the same lap as someone else. If there's no sticker on the track, you'll be scored at the start line of the lap you're on.
- Track timer. The timer will only be delayed if someone is in the bathroom or for a fast gear adjustment (30 seconds). We won't wait on extensive repairs; you may put your car back on the track once your repairs are made.
- Track calls will be kept as minimal as possible.
- Driver track call buttons. When a driver presses the button, ALL cars that are off the track will be placed directly in front of the lap counter. If a driver presses the button while their own car is on the track (a false track call), that driver's car will be placed directly in front of the lap counter.
- No running. No fighting. This is a hobby, so just have fun.

Flexi Challenge Series: DTM, LMP, GTP
Our Flexi Challenge rules are based on the FNRS rules. Anything not covered here conforms to the FNRS basic rules. Classes run: JK Wide Indy / LMP, DTM and GTP. Follow the series on Facebook.
Chassis components must be commercially available at least 30 days before the first race of the season; anything released after that is considered for the following season. We reserve the right to exclude any product that may be deemed detrimental to the series and/or its supporters and racers.
Chassis
Any 4" stamped steel 2- or 3-piece chassis. A chassis has a minimum of two and a maximum of three parts: one solid center section and up to two separate pans. Two-piece center sections are not allowed. The part of the center section the motor attaches to must be steel; pans may be steel or aluminum. No homemade, carbon fiber, plastic, molded or printed parts.
Chassis blanks may be cut by laser, EDM, water jet, mill or die stamp. All axle uprights, motor brackets, guide tongues, body clip mounting holes, etc. must be formed by stamping the center section and pans. Spring steel solder-together chassis are not allowed. The chassis may not exceed 83 mm wide at any point.
- May use lightweight replacement pans and center sections.
- May interchange parts from a single manufacturer, such as Flexi and Flexi-2 parts, JK long or short center sections, and heavy or light pans on JK, Champion, Parma and Mossetti chassis.
- No modifications except the following:
- May solder or glue the motor, axle oilites/bushings and front wheel retainers.
- May add lead weight and/or strapping tape to the chassis.
- May file holes in the motor bracket for better gear mesh, but must keep part of the motor bracket.
- No oilite/bushing modifications. Offset oilites/bushings allowed. No ball bearings.
- May add spacers between the pan and center section.
- May add a 1" (25.4 mm) long motor brace and up to two upright braces (one per upright).
- Original manufacturer plating may be removed only where soldering.
- May add pin tubes in the stock holes/location; solid or floating. May add a lead wire retainer.
- May change the stock bite bar to a steel bar of .039" to .062" diameter: straight, round, no bends or flats, and not deviating from stock. The bite bar may not be soldered to the center section or pans.
- Overall width maximum 83 mm (3.268").
- May solder on a steel guide tongue reinforcement, but the original tongue may not be removed, modified or moved.
- No other modifications, soldering, cutting, grinding or bracing.
- May use any guide, nut, spacers, lead wire and clips. One guide flag per car. No magnet wire.
- May reasonably file the rear oilite/bushing chassis holes for axle alignment.
- Mossetti chassis: must use either an unmodified .062" brass tube or the M-1052 .064" stainless tube only, retained with push/body pins. The MR-1051 chassis retaining clip may be used but not modified or soldered to the chassis.
- Front axles and front wheels are not required (see class specifics for JK Wide Indy). Front wheels, if used, must be at least .675" O.D. Front axle diameter .093" to 3/32"; it may be soldered to the center section uprights.
Motors and gears
Approved motors: TS Intimidator, TS Intimidator BB, RTR Raptor Pro, PS Speedball, MA Enforcer (see class specifics for which motors each class allows).

- Clip-on heat sinks, or screw-on heat sinks that attach to the can on the pinion side, are allowed. Comm coolers allowed.
- Motors must be factory sealed, using the unmodified factory seal only. Clear fingernail polish may be added to extend seal life; no other seal modifications.
- Brushes and springs may be changed. Only 3-coil replacement springs. Any 36-D size brushes; brushes may not be cut, slotted or modified on the commutator face, but may be radiused before break-in.
- No spring insulation or shunt wires.

Clearance
- Rear clearance is .047" minimum, including the spur gear. It is measured under the rear of the car, directly under the rear axle and between the rear wheels, with the car at rest on a flat tech block and the guide in the tech block slot.
- Clearance is checked at the start of the race, with no check at the end. If a car is suspected of dragging during racing, the Race Director may check clearance. Any car found dragging will be repaired under green flag conditions.
- The tech director/race controller may do a mid-race clearance check at the start of any heat. Any car with less than .039" rear clearance at the start of a heat must change tires and be rechecked under green flag conditions.
Bodies
- Bodies must be fully painted and opaque. Sides may be left clear in the body pin/clip area only. Must have three numbers. All windows must be clear.
- Tape, lexan or mylar may be added for reinforcement but may not extend beyond the body.
- No added air control, spoilers or diaplanes.
- Looking straight down at tech, the body must completely cover the chassis and tires, except the front chassis wings.
- The blade of the guide flag may extend past the front bumper/nose. No braid, clips or top of the guide may be visible.
- No cutting into the top surface of the body. The rear bumper/valance may be cut out or removed.
- No rear body height requirement in any class.
- Front wheel area: use sticker fronts if no front wheels are used. If front wheels are used, the openings must be clear or cut out, with 50% of the front wheels visible.
